Ostomy Stoma Care in the Bathroom 🚿✨

Let’s be honest, adjusting to life with a stoma, ostomy isn’t something most of us ever thought we’d be doing. But here we are, learning, adapting, and (yes) even laughing at the occasional noisy surprise from our stoma, ostomy friend! Having the right products in your bathroom can turn bag changes from stressful chaos into a smoother, almost “spa-like” routine. To have what you need to hand at one of the most vulnerable time. I have been caught out when my stoma ostomy decides to pour out mid change but because I have all that I need to hand this isn’t a big problem. Just another thing to laugh at. Plus as I wear a two piece bag system so I find my changes really quick as I change the bag twice a day .

I have seen some people have a hanging pocket thing on the back of their bathroom door but I worry that this will affect the flange getting moisture into it as it sits there. Just  a thought.

Here’s your go-to list for a bathroom set-up that makes stoma, ostomy care less overwhelming (and maybe even a little bit fun).

Must-Have Stoma, Ostomy Products 👜

1. Stoma, Ostomy Bags & Accessories
Your star of the show! Whether you’re team one-piece or two-piece, make sure you’ve got plenty of pouches, barrier rings, and flange extenders ready. No one wants a last-minute panic when things get… active.

2. Adhesive Remover Wipes or Spray
These little wonders help you say “goodbye” to your old bag without a wrestling match with your skin. Plus using these helps to protect your skin. Why as every time you remove the flange without the adhesive remover you are ripping off some of your skin which isn’t great for your overall skin care. So if you are changing your flange daily how much damage are you possibly causing your skin?

3. Skin Barrier Wipes or Spray
Think of this as your skin’s invisible shield, protecting your skin before a fresh bag goes on. 🛡️

4. Dry Wipes or Soft Tissues
Normal tissues fall apart like soggy biscuits. Stick with dry wipes for a clean, fiber-free surface. Make sure that you do not use wipes that have a oil base to them. As this will stop your flange sticking to your skin. Not a great result.

5. Warm Water & Mild Soap
Simple and effective. No fancy perfumes or moisturizers, just gentle cleansing. Have you thought about having a bagless shower, allowing the warm water to wash over it all? One tip is to have a shower before you eat. I even have bagless baths and that is such a joy to have. The bubbles washing over all of my body and stoma, ostomy. To do something normal again. A small win but a win all the same.

6. Seal Rings or Paste
Leaks? Uneven skin? Seal rings and paste are your trusty backup dancers keeping everything secure. I use the rings in three pieces to fit into my creases rathen a full ring. Works a treat. I find that I have more paste on my fingers than on my tummy. I tip that I have seen is to put the paste in a syringe ( like the one used for children taking medicine) and push the paste into the place you need it.

7. Disposable Bags
Because let’s face it, used pouches need somewhere to go. Scented bags or a small bathroom bin are lifesavers.

8. Handheld Mirror
Great for checking angles and making sure everything is sitting just right. Handy when you’re not a contortionist! 🤸‍♀️

9. Stoma, Ostomy Powder
Got irritation or moisture? This magic dust helps keep skin happy and calm.

10. Scissors (for Cut-to-Fit Bags)
Curved-blade scissors = smooth, precise cuts. No jagged edges, no fuss.

11. Deodorizing Drops or Tablets
For when you’d rather your pouch stay a secret. A little confidence boost in every drop. 💧

12. Nappy bin

So useful to have, are you a late in the day changer? The thought of having to go out to the outside bin just…… You are thinking that what about the cost of the refills? Yes you have a point but I have found using a long bin liner works great. The cost is a big difference and you can get them smells.

Setting Up Your Bathroom

Think of your bathroom as mission control. A tidy set-up makes life so much easier. Use baskets, drawers, or little organizers so you’re never frantically searching for scissors mid-change. Keep spares nearby too  because running out of bags at the wrong moment is a horror story no one needs.

Adjusting to stoma, ostomy life takes patience (and sometimes a sense of humor). With the right products and a well-organized space, you’ll soon discover your routine and maybe even feel proud of your stoma-care superpowers.

From Diagnosis to Designing Confidence: My Stoma, Ostomy Journey 💪🌸

Hey, I’m Helinka and back in 2013, my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Surgery saved my life, but it also left me with an ileostomy. That bag wasn’t just a medical change, it challenged everything I thought I knew about my body, confidence, and identity.

At first, I didn’t just struggle, I felt invisible. The mental toll was heavy: grief, anxiety, stress… the kind of pain no one warns you about. I didn’t want to just survive life with a stoma, ostomy. I wanted to feel beautiful, strong, and seen. But finding products that reflected that? Nearly impossible.

So, I did something bold…

Lingerie That Speaks Self-Love ✂️💖

I began designing lingerie that felt like me again. Soft silks, delicate lace, wraps that hold space for both comfort and confidence. I created stoma, ostomy lingerie that’s not just practical but empowering, elegant, and sexy. Because yes, you deserve to feel gorgeous, every damn day.

Every piece I make is stitched with purpose and understanding. It’s more than fabric, it’s a reminder that you’re still you. Beautiful, resilient, whole.

Healing the Mind: Clinical Hypnotherapy

But I knew it wasn’t just about how we dress. It’s about how we feel. That’s why I trained as a clinical hypnotherapist to support others like me. I help people work through the hidden stuff: anxiety, grief, trauma, PTSD. The mental battle that comes with stoma, ostomy life is real and you don’t have to face it alone.

Together, we work on building confidence, calming the mind, and moving forward with strength and grace.

Life Doesn’t Stop. It Transforms 🎉

Having a stoma, ostomy doesn’t mean life is over. It means life is different and that’s not a bad thing. My mission is to break the stigma, speak the truth, and show others that life can still be joyful, spontaneous, sexy, and full of purpose.

So if this story sounds a little like yours, know this: you’re not alone. Whether you need support, beautiful lingerie, or just someone who gets it, I’m here. Let’s shine, together. 💫
